Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) is proud to launch the Hospital Sustainability Project Tracker, designed by DEA’s Environmentally Sustainable Healthcare special interest group.
The Project Tracker focuses on reducing the significant emissions associated with healthcare delivery in Australia.
The Project Tracker provides health organisations a comprehensive and easy-to-use framework to help them introduce, track progress, and report on environmental sustainability activities across their organisation.
The Project Tracker is prepopulated with recognised initiatives with a focus on governance and leadership, workforce education and engagement, clinical care delivery, facilities management, and procurement to provide inspiration and guidance to hospital leadership teams, clinicians, health care professionals, and staff.
The Project Tracker is aligned with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s (ACSQHC) draft Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience Healthcare Module, designed to improve the safety and quality of health care, while addressing the health system’s carbon footprint.
The draft ACSQHC Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience Healthcare Module is being piloted at approximately 40 sites around Australia.
The Project Tracker’s co-lead, Dr Sonia Chanchlani says,” We aim to inspire real change across the sector, advancing environmental sustainability and improving the quality and safety of care in Australia”.
Co-lead Dr Ben Dunne adds, “Reaching a net-zero healthcare sector demands fundamental shifts in how we operate our facilities and provide clinical care.
“Sustainability efforts must be integrated across the entire organisation. Through collaboration, we can lead the way to a net-zero healthcare future, promoting better health outcomes for everyone.”
