The Daily Telegraph: Health experts’ warnings ahead of Sydney summer heat

A Sydney doctor has raised concerns about heat-related illnesses in the western suburbs of NSW, particularly for pregnant women and outdoor workers.

Dr. Kim Loo, a GP, has seen an increase in heat-related illnesses in her surgery over the past years and is bracing for more as summer hits. She warns that communities often don't understand the dangers of heatwaves, as seen in a patient who died due the effects of a heatwave.

Dr. Loo recommends making a heat plan, staying hydrated, and going to places with air conditioning. She also emphasises the importance of recognising symptoms of heat-related illnesses, such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and cramps.

First aid provider St John Ambulance has reported a 46% spike in heat-related illnesses in NSW over the last 12 months.
