WA Today: Doctors’ Woodside challenge greenlit

Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) won a maximum costs order capping NOPSEMA’s and Woodside’s recoverable legal costs at $80,000 if DEA loses.

With a hearing set for July 14–15, The Environmental Defenders Office will represent DEA and will argue that key greenhouse gas controls in the project’s environment plan are too vague to meet regulatory requirements, making NOPSEMA’s decision unlawful.

 

This case highlights the growing scrutiny of fossil fuel project approvals and their compliance with environmental and public interest laws.
