The NSW government is assessing plans to apply a road-user charge to electric vehicles. However, at the electric vehicle inquiry transport and health, experts warned against an electric vehicle tax as it could slow uptake of electric vehicles, increase pollution and confuse consumers.
"We would advise against policy settings that would impede uptake of battery vehicles or create perverse incentives favouring (internal combustion) or hybrid vehicles," Dr Felicity Heale, Doctors for the Environment Australia member, said.
