Medical Forum: Addressing climate change ‘a public health issue’

Local health experts are calling on politicians to take into account the effects of climate change on the health of Western Australians as the Federal Election approaches.

Western Australia has recently experienced its hottest summer on record, and Perth faced an unusual heatwave during Autumn in March.

Recent studies indicate that heat-related fatalities in Perth could increase by over 60% by 2050, prompting Doctors for the Environment Australia to bring attention to this critical issue.

On March 28, the group organised a public forum to discuss the matter, coinciding with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's announcement of the Federal Election set for May 3.
