DEA does not support carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a way to reduce carbon pollution and slow global heating because it:
● has a track record of failure
● is used to greenwash ongoing expansion of fossil fuel developments
● is itself energy intensive and only able to isolate a tiny fraction of the carbon dioxide produced from fossil fuel extraction and use
● leaks, acidifying oceans and harming marine ecosystems as well as adding even more carbon pollution to the atmosphere, accelerating climate change
● is used to boost production from oil fields, further increasing carbon pollution
● is expensive and distracts from investment in proven and emerging clean, renewable technologies.
