The Wire: Doctors Challenge Approval of Scarborough Gas Project Environmental Plan in Federal Court

Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) have successfully obtained a Federal Court order that allows them to contest the approval of the environmental plan (EP) for the Scarborough Gas Project. DEA intends to argue that the approval of the EP was not in accordance with regulations and did not fulfill the required criteria, thus it should not have been sanctioned by NOPSEMA, Australia’s offshore energy regulatory body.

Additionally, the court has issued a maximum costs order, which restricts the legal costs that NOPSEMA and the energy corporation Woodside could claim should DEA’s legal challenge prove unsuccessful.
