The prolonged drought and subsequent catastrophic bushfires continue to unfold and demand immediate attention. Many DEA members have been directly affected, and have provided medical and other practical advice and assistance.
DEA encourages its members to also donate to one of the many reputable charities that are well set up to assist people who have been affected and to those helping animals that are suffering.
Thousands of people have been badly affected and some have tragically died. Thousands of farm animals, domestic pets and many millions of native animals have perished, while some that have survived need urgent treatment. The impact upon the natural environment, upon which all health depends, has been massive. Several organisations that are providing vital support include:
Animal rescue groups
For those doctors working in hospitals - please talk to your CE / ED and ask to collect un-usable stock (eg: close to or out of date supplies) to send to wildlife carers/centres in need. But please do check with the organisations first to ensure they need supplies.
Also you can drop off supplies to Elwood Family Clinic at 63 Glen Huntly Rd Elwood, Melbourne, during business hours.
