Negotiations came to an abrupt end at UN climate conference when a fire forced the complete evacuation of the Blue Zone venue at COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
People were seen escaping as the fire broke out in a pavilion behind the East Africa Community pavilion in the main exhibition hall in a dramatic video that was shared on social media.
Dr Kimberley Humphrey, an emergency medicine specialist and board member of Doctors for the Environment Australia and attend to those affected in the medical tent.
"It was terrifying,” she said. “We’ve had flooding. Now we had fire. It’s like the universe is telling us something, which is: get on and do something.”
