New report from EJA. The Health Burden of fine particle pollution from electricity generation in NSW.

Dr Ben Ewald, DEA member, GP and epidemiologist has written a report for Environmental Justice Australia on the annual health burden from exposure to fine particle pollution from the five coal fired power stations in NSW. The headline result is that 279 people die every year from this pollution. The NSW power stations do not currently have the modern pollution control technology that is a requirement in most other countries. These technologies limit sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide releases and can be retrofitted to existing plant, but are not required under the current licenses. The licenses are under review and open for public submissions until 24 December. Further details, and the full report are available at here.
