DEA Statement on Gaza

Doctors for the Environment Australia is appalled by the indefensible use of starvation, attacks on healthcare and humanitarian aid workers, and the destruction of health facilities, as weapons of war by the Israeli government in Gaza.

As well as the enormous harm caused to the health and wellbeing of current and future generations in Gaza, this war is also creating significant climate and environmental damage, political instability and distraction from other pressing geo-political issues, which threatens the health and wellbeing of us all.

DEA calls for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza and the restoration of independent UN-led humanitarian aid, including safe food, water and sanitation, medical supplies, shelter and fuel. We call on the Israeli government to abide by its obligations under international law. We call on Hamas to release the remaining hostages. Finally we call on the Australian government to use all means within its power, bilaterally and internationally, to bring this conflict to an end.
