Croakey Health Media: Why the climate health crisis should be top of mind for Queensland voters

Voters in Queensland face significant issues ahead of the upcoming polls, primarily focusing on the economy amid rising inflation and living costs, however, the impacts of climate change, is a pressing concern for Queensland. As one of the world's most vulnerable regions, climate change receives less attention despite its severe impact, including over 97 significant disasters since 2011, writes Dr Beau Frigault, a Brisbane doctor and member of Doctors for the Environment Australia.

Climate change affects public health through numerous and complex ways such as; increased respiratory illnesses, heat-related conditions, and mental health issues like PTSD, necessitating immediate action.

As the election approaches, it's crucial for candidates and voters to recognize the interconnectedness of climate and health, advocating for sustainable policies to protect the future of Queensland. Failure to act could jeopardize the well-being of current and future generations.
