Croakey Health Media: Western Australian Labor’s win not a mandate for ‘business as usual’

This two articles piece in Croakey shows how the re-elected Western Australia Labor Government faces significant tasks, including creating a climate change bill, improving housing for pregnant Aboriginal women, and expanding the Rent Relief Program.

They are also expected to honour election pledges, like increasing WA schools with breakfast programs and dedicating 5% of health spending to prevention by 2029.

In the second piece, Reset the Agenda, DEA members Drs. Emma-Leigh Synnott and Richard Yin argue that the incoming government has an opportunity to refocus the climate and environmental agenda.

Public support for climate action calls for a Climate Change bill, a Renewable Energy target, and a ban on fracking. There is also a push for improved health policy, focusing on preventive care and better support for vulnerable populations. Engaging community experiences in decision-making is essential for effective health improvements.
