Important information on changes to DEA Membership
DEA has now received Endorsement from the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). Due to this, DEA changed its financial structure at the 2005 AGM:

Ordinary Membership
DEA now has a flat rate annual Ordinary Membership of $42. Membership is free for medical students.

Tax advice regarding Membership:
As a membership fee, not a ‘donation’, this amount is not paid into our public fund with DGR status. However: The Tax Office website states that: "...a deduction is allowable to the person (up to a maximum amount of $42 in an income year for payments in respect of each association to which the person belongs) under section 25-55 of the Act if the payment is made for membership of a trade, business or professional association."
Please check with your tax accountant about tax deductibility because how much you can deduct may depend on your individual situation.

Donations
Any amount in excess of the annual membership of $42 that you may choose to pay as a donation will now go to ‘The DEA Fund’ (ABN # 80 178 870 373) and will be eligible for tax deductibility.
